For seniors who are interested in the possibility of participating in the 2015 New York mission trip, there is a required parent meeting before our regular Parent Night on Monday, September 8. At this 6:15 meeting in the Academy Auditorium, parents will receive information about the trip as well as information about requirements for students who are interested in participating in the trip. Beginning this year spectators will pay admission at Academy Lions regular season home games (varsity, JV, and middle school). Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children, with a maximum of $10 per family (immediate family members only). Complimentary admission to Lions home games is available for the Academy family as detailed below. By showing his BJA/BJU ID card, a current BJA/BJU student, faculty, or staff member receives complimentary admission. A current high school student may use his ID card for complimentary admission for his parents and siblings. A Lions Athletic Family Pass provides complimentary admission for any current student (preschool through high school) with his parents and siblings. Pick up your family pass at an academy office. Complimentary admission applies to middle school, junior varsity, and varsity regular season home games only. School ID cards and the family pass may not apply to admission for predetermined league playoff and/or championship games when league policy requires admission. Seniors interested in going on the 2015 NY trip are eligible for a $25 discount for the cost of the trip if they complete all preparation requirements by Friday, August 22. Read more.
The forensics team is an award-winning speech and debate team that competes on weekends (about fifteen during the school year) in public and privates schools in a three-state area. Team members compete in debate, public speaking, and interpretation events. In addition to competing locally, the team competes in the state speech tournament and in the National Speech and Debate Association (formerly the National Forensic League) national tournament.
Members have the opportunity to join the National Speech and Debate Association, which is the nation's largest speech and debate organization. The NSDA is an honor society. Students interested in joining the team should attend the informational event that will be held on Tuesday, August 26, from 3:30 until 5 p.m. in the Academy Auditorium. It will include current team members presenting examples of speech events, testimonials, and a PowerPoint illustrating a typical tournament. There will also be a time to ask questions. For each student who is selected for a fall interscholastic sports team (middle school, JV, and varsity girls volleyball and boys soccer), at least one parent is required to attend the parent interscholastic sports meeting that will be held on Monday, August 25, at 7 p.m. in the Academy Auditorium. Team rosters will be announced at school by Friday, August 22.
