The new system will be based on a student’s cumulative unweighted grade point average at the end of the first semester of the current school year. A student achieving the gold-level award of a 3.91 through 4.0 will receive a certificate at the awards assembly and will be recognized in the school newspaper, the Triangle. Students receiving the silver-level (3.75 to 3.90) or bronze-level (3.5 to 3.74) awards will be recognized in the Triangle. We are pleased to recognize the good academic work of these students.
Student grade point averages have been complicated over the last few years with the addition of our dual-credit program, honors science track, and honors Algebra I for eighth-graders. As a result, our previous system of academic awards has been replaced by a new system in an attempt to accurately honor our students. Previously the end-of-year academic awards for all high school grade levels was based on whether a student had all A’s (or A-‘s) for the previous two semesters. Students who had a B in any subject were not recognized with an award.
