- Language development: Related arts classes introduce your child to new ways to express himself/herself and new ways to think about things. The act of creating art and music provides opportunity to increase a child’s vocabulary. The volumes of books in our libraries also provide additional connections for language acquisition and enhancement.
- Motor skills: Coordination and muscle tone are built into the physical education class. However, the act of holding a paintbrush, squeezing Play-Doh, and playing an instrument also develop fine motor skills.
- Problem-solving skills: Participation in related arts often puts a child into discovery mode, giving him or her the opportunity to handle new challenges and encounter solutions. The arts foster higher levels of thinking that carry over into other subject areas.
- Enhanced creativity: The related arts classroom is a wonderful tool for exploration and experimentation.
- Habits, behaviors, and attitudes: Many of the arts require practice and aid children in establishing endurance, persistence, and patience--skills that are critical to success in many areas of life.
