Elementary students enthusiastically participate in the opening ceremonies. Then as the elementary students join their parents and friends and other relatives who have come to enjoy inflatable attractions, concessions, and carnival booths, middle school students jog onto the stadium track for their service opportunity. They compete individually and by homeroom to raise funds for school equipment. Although the eighth graders will not be able to personally use the equipment, they enjoy competing and are happy to benefit the students who will follow them. Past projects funded this way have been new student lockers, covered sidewalks, an iPad lab, and, this year, a mobile laptop cart. Kudos to the middle school students who through the years have raised over $100,000 with this event. High school students have greatly enjoyed their new opportunities for service as they run the carnival and athletic games for the elementary students and also serve as big brothers and sisters for students whose parents are unable to attend.
Field day provides a fun and social atmosphere and especially the opportunity to learn the joy of serving others.
