Last month Dr. Barbrow expressed his intent to retire at the end of this school year. Since that time, he has informed the faculty, staff, and elementary parents. In his retirement letter, he wrote, “I look forward to the opportunities, time to be with family, and occasions to do things that have been postponed throughout the years.” We will greatly miss Dr. Barbrow and his influence at BJA but are excited for the new opportunities that await him.
Dr. Barbrow has dedicated his life to the education of children. Before coming to Bob Jones Academy in 2004, he served more than 30 years at L’Anse Creuse Public Schools in Clinton Township, Michigan, as a classroom teacher, department head, and supervisor. Although his wife Sherry attended BJU, Dan met her in Michigan after he had completed his college education. Dr. Barbrow earned a bachelor’s degree from BJU in 1970, a master of art’s degree in educational psychology from Michigan State University, an education specialist degree in general education administration from Wayne State University, and a doctor of philosophy degree in education leadership from Trident University International.
Numbers of parents have sent thank you notes to the school which we have forwarded to Dr. Barbrow. One parent wrote, “Dr. Barbrow, while it’s sad to see you go, we appreciate the steady hand with which you’ve led the school for all these years.” Another sent the following, “We receive your retirement news with mixed feeling. We are happy for you as you start a new journey with all the beauty and adventure that comes along the way. On the other hand, we will greatly miss you. We are privileged to have had our children go through the elementary school during the years of your service as our principal.”
If you would like to send Dr. Barbrow a message to express your appreciation, you may send it directly to him or through the BJA office. We will be glad to forward your note on to him. Thank you, Dr. Barbrow, for your faithful service to the Lord for the sake of the children and to the glory of God.
