Another purpose is to review policies and procedures. Some of these we review annually, such as the handling of injuries, evacuation procedures, mandatory reporting, and academic matters. This year Sue Biddle, our school nurse, gave an overview of some fairly new medical procedures and precautions, from AEDs to the school concussion policy. Dr. Esther White reminded us of our special needs offerings and described the SC ECENC which is continuing to provide scholarships and tax credits for a number of our families.
In-service provides us with the opportunity to consider specific pedagogical methods and tools. This year Dr. Brian Carruthers, Dean of BJU’s School of Education, conducted a workshop on “Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback,” which ties together several of our school improvement plan initiatives. Mike Santopietro and Steve Case from BJU Press presented online tools that they have made available to our teachers. And Jonna Carper overviewed GradeMaster, our new test scanner. |
Perhaps, the most important purpose of the week is to renew our hearts toward the Lord and the ministry He has given us. On Monday, I presented our theme verses for this year, Romans 12:1,2. Secondary principal Larry Hunt convinced us of the great importance of daily Bible reading. On Wednesday, Dr. Steve Pettit challenged us to consider the treasure we possess in clay pots and how God works in us to do a work through us in order that Jesus might be made known to those around us.
Monday is coming. We cannot wait!
