Beyond the confines of their school buildings, however, middle school students have other ministry opportunities. Each week students participate in a service at a nearby assisted living facility. They sing, read Scripture, and visit briefly with residents. Each November, they participate in a food drive for a nearby children’s home. By their serving others that week, our students provide wanted food items for other children and help reduce the home’s annual food budget.
Additionally, because we believe in serving others, events not structured specifically as ministry opportunities become such opportunities. On the soccer field and the volleyball and basketball courts, at regional band and orchestra competitions, in the mock trial courtroom, and on class trips, students have ministry opportunities to serve others. Whether it’s helping a fallen player, offering a water bottle, picking up music, offering encouraging words to a fellow competitor, or giving up a seat on a bus or a place in line to an older visitor, our students have moments to show Christlike love and service to others.
