Middle school students have an unusual opportunity on Monday, February 13, to attend the BJU Creation Conference in Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium. Students have already been registered for the conference and will attend with their homeroom teachers.
Although we will not have classes that day, we will have a normal school day in that early stay will take place from 7:30 – 7:50 a.m., attendance and lunch count will be taken at 8 a.m. in homeroom, and carline will occur at 3:10 as normal. We have organized activities for the students the entire day, so for the purpose of parents planning transportation for their student(s), Monday should be considered a normal school day. For your child’s safety and to facilitate getting all the students back to the middle school in an orderly fashion before carline begins, all students will need to return to the middle school with their homeroom teachers following the afternoon conference session. We request that parents not attempt to pick up their student(s) at the FMA. On Tuesday, December 6, at 7:45 p.m., the middle school band and orchestra combine forces to present a concert in the Academy Auditorium. The band will present a variety of Christmas melodies. An interesting medley weaves together three Christmas lullabies, while “Fantasy on an English Carol” uses modern rhythmic patterns to pull together melodic statements from all sections of the band. A challenging arrangement of the Appalachian Folk Carol “I Wonder as I Wander” presents the familiar and thoughtful melody with harmonic tension and tempo changes supporting the carol’s textual portrayal of Christ’s birth being for the purpose of His death on the cross. The orchestra will present both Christmas pieces and other numbers such as “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” and a waltz from “Sleeping Beauty.”
The eighth-grade students have regular classes on Monday, December 12, and will be on the Williamsburg Trip Tuesday through Friday. The seventh-grade students have a regular schedule until Friday, December 16, when they will be dismissed at noon. Regular late stay is available until 5:30 p.m. that day.
Students in grades K3 through 12 have special opportunities to serve the community through specific ministries during the week of November 7-11.
Elementary students collect nonperishable food items to fill Thanksgiving baskets for needy families. The collection contributes to baskets that the BJU ministerial class will distribute. Nearly 50 families receive baskets each year. For additional details, click here. Middle school students also collect supplies annually for Miracle Hill Children’s Home. Students have provided an average of over 13,000 pounds of goods for Miracle Hill each of the last five years. For additional details, click here. High school students have a paper drive for Shepherd’s Gate, another ministry of Miracle Hill. The high school students provide paper towels, tissues, and other paper products (often enough for nine months of operation)—a wonderful contribution to that ministry. Students will receive specific information at school. We look forward to these opportunities to serve. |
