BJA will certainly miss Mr. Kappel greatly, and we are deeply grateful to the Lord for the years of service that He allowed him to have with us.
As many of our families are well aware, Mr. Todd Kappel has served at BJA for nearly 25 years—initially teaching, then serving in the high school as assistant principal, then middle school as principal, and most recently in our central office as assistant to the administrator. He joined the National Guard shortly after he came to Greenville and began working at BJA. Since 2001 the Lord has allowed Mr. Kappel to be called to active duty three times and progressed in rank to Sergeant Major. Through those experiences the Lord burdened him for ministry to military service members. Recently his battalion forwarded his name to work with a transition assistance team that will work directly with service members and their families while they face struggles unique to veterans. He has accepted the job that was offered, and he will begin that work next week. Mr. Kappel says, “These are people who need help, and they need assistance from other veterans who know how to utilize the many options out there. I will be going from here to work with these veterans and their families, but this will not be a military leave of absence; I will not be serving in uniform. My job will be to come alongside people to guide and direct as a civilian--but with that military experience and background that can make a difference.”
