In the same way, related arts education further develops students in areas beyond the academic curriculum, and in some cases even alerts students to God-given talents to be polished. Related-arts classes in Spanish, library/media, physical education, music, and art are part of the foundational instruction at the elementary school level. In addition to functional skills, these classes expose students to culture and history and help instill discipline, discernment, and a critical appreciation for what is beautiful. While enjoyable, related-arts times are not entertainment times or breaks in the curriculum. Instead, these classes are times when students can be informed and more fully prepared for the work God has for them while being good citizens, careful stewards of their bodies, and a testimony of a well-educated young person.
In I Corinthians 9:22, we find an example to follow—“I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some.” Our goal in providing a related arts curriculum is to give students even more tools to carry with them as they go forward to serve the Lord and reach their greatest potential.
